While exploring Sherkin Island in County Cork while on holiday, I came across a sign “Open Studio” and through a gap I saw a painting propped up on an easel in a garden. I wandered in and met the artist, Jo Ashby.
Jo is a Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. She is particularly interested in the sea, painting seascapes in Cornwall and Sherkin.
Coincidentally Jo will be having an exhibition ‘Two Views’ along with artist Majella O’Neill Collins who is also based in Sherkin. The exhibition in Sherkin Island Community Hall opens at 2:30pm on Sunday August 9th and continues until Saturday August 22nd. The exhibition will go to the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) in Birmingham in June 2016, before returning to West Cork the following summer.
Sherkin Island is in West Cork and can be reached by a ten minute ferry from Baltimore.
