Abbey Road master classAthlone’s Abbey Road Artists’ Studios’ busy autumn season kicks off with a one day professional development master class entitled ‘Engaged’ on Tuesday 11th September between 10am and 4.30pm. Aimed at professional, established and emerging artists the class will explore the relationship between gallery and artist and the different means of securing exhibitions. Topics covered during the session will include art venues both commercial and non-profit, application procedures, artists’ resources, submissions toolkit and much more. The master class is the first in a series of exciting events taking place at Abbey Road Artists’ Studios over the coming weeks.

The class will be facilitated by arts producer Jackie Ryan who has 20 years’ experience of professional management in the visual and performing arts sectors. Jackie has taught many master classes in numerous arts organisations including the National Gallery of Ireland and the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Catherine Yorke, Athlone Art and Heritage Coordinator said, “This master class will be full of practical tips and advice to help artists secure exhibitions and make their art publically visible and reflects the commitment of Athlone Art and Heritage to nurturing professional, creative career development. Being successfully included in exhibitions requires quite a different skillset to creating beautiful and interesting works of art. The aim of this session is to provide artists with information and assistance in how to achieve a public platform for their work.”

A limited number of places are available for the master class and pre-booking is essential. The class costs €20 for the day. For further information and to reserve a place contact Athlone Art and Heritage Visual Art Coordinator on tel: 09064 42130 or by email: info@athloneartandheritage.ie

Separately, Making Space will host a talk that explores artist led initiatives in Ireland. Grace McEvoy from Block T Studios and Gallery in Dublin will host this talk on Wednesday 12th September in Abbey Road Studios at 7.30pm.
