Last Wednesday (9th March) saw the opening of a solo exhibition by Mark Doherty in The MadArt Gallery in Gardiner Street, Dublin 1. The exhibition is curated by Olivier Cornet (Olliart) and was opened by DIT fine Art lecturer Joe Hanly.
Dealing with diverse themes including consumerism, the cults of celebrity and personality, junk food news and environmentalism, ‘Herd Society’ constructs a projected future with which to satirise their absurdities. Using imagery drawn from both historical sources and contemporary media, this darkly humorous world holds up a distorted mirror to our own and invites us to laugh at ourselves.
